Before the Pathfinder Society officially dispatched the party to the Gravelands, the Al received a shadow-veiled contract from a patron named Vesper. His true objective was to bypass the Society’s gaze and secure the Voice of Sarenrae, a glowing magical sword hidden within GoldenFlame College. During the mission, the SmashEmUps ambushed the Whispering Way necromancer Ralthiss in the college’s Main Hall. Following the battle, Al claimed the holy blade from the necromancer’s back, concealing his true motives and passing the weapon off as just another Society relic to his oblivious companions.

Back in the smog-choked streets of Caliphas, the goblin bagman Trigs instructed Al to deliver the sword to a courier named Neega at The Iron Lung inn. The handoff became a nightmare when the party breached the room to find Neega murdered and a shapeshifter—wearing Rhea’s face—fleeing over the balcony. As the Ashtown city guard hacked down the door, Al made a desperate choice: he set Neega’s body ablaze to destroy the evidence, forcing the party to flee into the fog as wanted fugitives.

The SmashEmUps chased the imposter to an abandoned pump house, where the vampire tailor Radvir Giovanni suddenly intervened. Radvir shattered the creature’s illusion with a bite to the neck and forced the doppelganger to confess that it was hired by Ashtown Guard Captain Tharivol Eathalena to frame the party and steal the sword.

The SmashEmUps still have the sword and a whole district on the lookout for them.
