Overview & History #

Goldenflame College was once a prestigious institution dedicated to the study of art, history, literature, philosophy, and religion. Sponsored by the church of Iomedae, its doors were open to all students dedicated to the cause of good. Unfortunately, the college and the neighboring town fell swiftly during the rise of the Whispering Tyrant, Tar-Baphon. Today, the campus is long abandoned, occupied only by scavengers, vermin, and the undead horrors that plague the Gravelands.

Architecture & Atmosphere #

The building features dirty, ivy-wrapped columns, majestic archways, and a partially intact stained-glass window portraying Iomedae. Scholars and historians recognize the stonework as the pre-Cheliax style once popular in Vellumis.

Campus Layout & Notable Locations #

  • The Grand Entrance: Two sweeping staircases lead to a veranda. Above the doors, an engraving reads “Goldenflame College, Est. 4083 AR”. The corpse of a halfling professor, who perished clutching esoteric field notes, was found resting on the porch.

  • Reception Area: A modest waiting area and cozy classroom that retains only a dusty sofa and small chairs.

  • The Main Hall: A cavernous hall once used for graduation ceremonies and staff meetings.

  • Faculty Offices: Small professional workspaces now reduced to shattered desks and torn rugs.

  • The Lounge: A dust-caked room containing a velvet-lined sofa. This served as the terrified hiding spot for the Pathfinder druid Larraz_Virtanne after she was separated from her mount, Desert Wind.

Recent Campaign Events #

The SmashEmUps infiltrated Goldenflame College to execute a rescue and recovery mission. In the Main Hall, the group ambushed the Whispering Way necromancer Ralthiss and his undead minions. During the chaotic fray, they successfully rescued the trapped Pathfinder Larraz Virtanne.

Crucially, it was during this skirmish that Al secured the Voice Of Sarenrae—a glowing magical sword strapped to Ralthiss’s back. Al managed to conceal his true patron’s (Vesper) interest in the blade, passing it off to the rest of the party as just another recovered historical relic.
