Overview #

The Iron Saint is the crown jewel of the Quarterfaux Archives in Caliphas. Standing as a silent sentinel in the center of the museum’s Grand Atrium, this massive construct is widely considered one of the most significant artifacts remaining from the Shining Crusade.

It is currently the subject of an ongoing restoration project led by the Archives’ Senior Restorationist, Stacee Thistletop, who describes it as a “mechanical marvel” of the lost age.

Description #

The construct stands roughly 15 feet tall and resembles a suit of heavy plate armor scaled for a giant.

  • Appearance: It is forged of dark, heavy iron with intricate gold detailing. Its design mimics the holy vestments and armor of the Knights of Ozem, complete with a knightly helm and heavy gauntlets.

  • Pose: It is frozen in a pose of “heroic vigilance,” seemingly guarding the entrance to the Archives against unseen threats.

  • Plaque: The official museum placard reads: “The Iron Saint: A Golem of the Shining Crusade (Circa 3820 AR)”.

History #

According to museum records, The Iron Saint was discovered in the aftermath of the Shining Crusade. Historians believe it served as a “holy avenger”—a specialized golem commissioned by the church to battle the undead hordes of the Whispering Tyrant.

Unlike typical flesh or stone golems, the Saint appears to be a unique fusion of clockwork engineering and divine magic. It has remained dormant since its discovery, and no modern mage has yet determined the command word or method required to wake it.

Visiting #

The exhibit is open to the public during standard Archive hours.

  • Access: It is located in the free-to-access Grand Atrium, making it a popular meeting point for scholars and tourists alike.

  • Restoration: Visitors may occasionally see Stacee Thistletop or her assistants working on the chassis from scaffolding, cleaning the metalwork or studying its faint magical aura.
