Overview #

Goldenflame was once a beacon of academic and spiritual enlightenment in southeastern Lastwall. Centered around its prestigious college and sponsored by the Church of Iomedae, it was a sanctuary for the study of philosophy, history, and the arts.

The town’s peaceful nature became its tragedy during the rise of the Whispering Tyrant. While many fled to Vellumis, the defenders who remained were overwhelmed by the undead tide. It has remained a “husk of a town,” a grim reminder of Lastwall’s fall, until the recent expedition by the group known as the SmashEmUps.

Recent Campaign Events #

The SmashEmUps ( Al, Helena, and Rhea), a successful recovery mission was executed within the ruins.

• The Rescue of Larraz Virtanne: The party successfully infiltrated the Goldenflame College and engaged the necromancer Ralthiss, who had been using the campus as a base of operations. During the skirmish in the Main Hall, the necromancer was slain, and the Pathfinder druid Larraz Virtanne was rescued from captivity.

• The Voice Of Saranrae: It has been noted in confidential reports that a legendary artifact known as The Voice of Sarenrae—a glowing, magical blade—was retrieved from the college ruins during this operation.

• The Clearing of the Plaza: The initial entry into the town was marked by a clash with a Zombie Riding Horse and its shambling attendants. The party successfully neutralized these threats, securing the central thoroughfare for further investigation.

Notable Locations #

• The Town Plaza: The heart of Goldenflame, featuring a dry, crumbling fountain. It was here that the wayfinder of the fallen Pathfinder Clement Marten was recovered from the remains of a skeletal beast.

• Goldenflame Chapel & Town Hall: A dual-purpose structure that once housed the town’s spiritual and administrative heart. Recent recovery efforts salvaged the town’s census and historical records, ensuring the names of Goldenflame’s citizens are not lost to time.

• The Flaming Wheel: A local tavern whose sign—a flaming chariot wheel—stood as a symbol of Iomedae’s favor. Though the tavern was the site of a final, desperate stand by a gnome Knight of Ozem, the SmashEmUps were able to recover the iconic sign as a cultural relic.

• Goldenflame College: Located a short distance south of the main town, this academy remains a majestic, if ivy-choked, ruin. The architecture still features archways and a partially intact stained-glass window of the Inheritor.

Honored Dead & Recovered Agents #

The recent expedition allowed the Pathfinder Society to bring closure to several missing persons cases:

• Clement Marten: A brave agent who perished assisting the Knights of Ozem. His Wayfinder was recovered and returned to Caliphas.

• Gibb Potsmasher: A goblin Sarenite whose remains were identified within the ruins of the Chapel.

• The Knight of Ozem: The remains of an unnamed gnome defender were discovered in the Flaming Wheel; she is remembered for her defiance against the Whispering Way until the very end.

Current Status #

While the immediate threat of the necromancer Ralthiss has been removed, Goldenflame remains within the Gravelands. The town is considered “reclaimed” in a symbolic sense, though the surrounding territories are still heavily infested with the Tyrant’s influence. Travelers are advised to approach with extreme caution, as the toxic mold in the Goldenflame General Store and wandering scavengers remain persistent hazards.

Goldenflame may be a ruin of stone and ash, but so long as its history is preserved and its fallen are remembered, the Tyrant has not truly won.
